What is the definition of computer software

A software is a set of instructions that tell a machine’s physical body (hardware) how to perform a specific task.

INTRODUCTION

What do you thing is the difference between a bicycle and a motorcycle or a manual blender and an electric blender. Some of the following differences come to mind

1.      A manual blender and a bicycle require complete human effort to control them. On the other hand, a motorcycle and an electric blender require just little or no human effort to control them.

2.      Electric currents are required to control motorcycle and electric blender while bicycle and manual blender require no electric currents.

Did I speak out your mind? If you have more differences, you can write them in your jotter and discuss it with your friends.

Now think about this: you know that the speed and power at which the bicycle and manual blender operates depends on how fast the rider paddles the bicycle or the user turns the handle of the manual blender. What of the motorcycle and electric blender? If you have ridden or seen a motorcycle rider riding one, you would have observed that, to move faster or slower, he/she simply switches the gear and turns the accelerator handle to a certain degree and the motorcycle moves accordingly. That of the electric blender is not that much different. All the user has to do is to press the button associated with the desired speed and that is it.

In short, to operate the motorcycle, the rider has to give out specific instruction to the moto by switching gears and turning the accelerator handle, which the motorcycle then performs.  Or in the case of the electric blender, the user instructs the blender by pressing on the desired button associated with a particular speed and then the engine of the blender rotates the blade at that speed.

These instructions that tell the machine how to operate are known as programs or software
